Dominion's New 1,329-MW Warren County Power Station Begins Commercial Operations

LCG, December 12, 2014-Dominion announced yesterday that the 1,329-MW Warren County Power Station commenced commercial operations yesterday. The natural gas-fired, combined-cycle facility is the newest plant in Dominion Virginia Power's generation fleet. Project construction on the $1.1 billion facility began in March 2012 and was completed on schedule.

Dominion Generation's chief executive officer stated, "Our newest power station is a welcome addition to a generating fleet that is already one of the cleanest and most-reliable in the nation. It fills a critical need to meet growing demand in the Commonwealth and in Northern Virginia in particular. It is built to be both environmentally and economically efficient, promoting quality of life as well as economic development."

The Warren County Power Station is built on a 39-acre site in the Warren Industrial Park, which is located approximately about 70 miles west of Washington, D.C. The station includes three Mitsubishi M501GAC gas turbines and a Mitsubishi TC4F steam turbine with an air cooled condenser. Dominion received approval to construct the facility from the Virginia State Corporation Commission on February 2, 2012.

The Warren County Power Station is now the largest natural gas-fueled generating facility in Virginia. However, in 2016 a larger sister station, Dominion's 1,360-MW Brunswick Power Station, in Brunswick County, is scheduled to begin operations.

Dominion Virginia Power is a subsidiary of Dominion.
