EIA Publishes Regional Electricity Supply and Pricing Forecasts Using UPLAN Model

LCG, August 13, 2019--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced that it is revising the presentation and modeling of its forecasts for electricity supply and market hub pricing to better reflect current electricity markets and system operations in the U.S. Beginning with the August 2019 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), the new forecasting approach models electricity markets using the UPLAN production cost optimization software developed by LCG Consulting. EIA uses the solution results provided by this proprietary model to develop the STEO forecasts of monthly electricity generation, fuel consumption, and wholesale prices.

Construction on California's Trans Bay Cable Completed

LCG, November 30, 2010--Pattern Energy Group LP yesterday announced completion of the Trans Bay Cable project, which extends an underwater electric transmission line 53 miles under the San Francisco Bay from Pittsburg southwest to San Francisco. The new line will alleviate transmission congestion into the City of San Francisco, which is otherwise dependent upon transmission lines extending northward up the San Francisco Peninsula.

The Trans Bay Cable project incorporates a 400 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine transmission line connecting a converter station at Pacific Gas & Electric's (PG&E's) Pittsburg Substation to a converter station at PG&E's Potrero Substation in San Francisco.

The new line connects renewable energy generated from wind farms in the Delta area to San Francisco and reduces the need for San Francisco's aging Potrero power plant, which has been a sore point for the neighborhood.

Construction on the converter stations commenced in November 2007, and the laying of the cable began in October 2009.

The City of Pittsburg initially entered into a letter of intent in January 2004 with Babcock & Brown to build and operate the cable, and the financial closing was completed in September 2007. However, SteelRiver Insfrastructure Partners took over ownership of the cable when Babcock & Brown went into receivership last year.
