Rockies Express Pipeline Clears Hurdle

LCG, March 1, 2006--Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. (KMP) and Sempra Pipelines & Storage, a unit of Sempra Energy, yesterday announced that they have received binding, firm shipper commitments to support proceeding towards construction on the $4 billion Rockies Express Pipeline project, which is designed to transport natural gas east from gas production fields in the Rockies to markets in the upper Midwest and Northeast. The two companies plan to file an application in May for regulatory approval.

The Rockies Express Pipeline project is designed to provide 1.8 Bcf/day of new pipeline capacity to transport gas produced in Wyoming and Colorado to eastern markets. The 1,323-mile, 42-inch diameter pipeline will extend from the Cheyenne Hub in Weld County, Colorado to the Clarington Hub in Monroe County, Ohio. The proposed pipeline will include over 25 interconnects to intrastate and interstate pipelines.

The project plan calls for the pipeline to be built in phases, with the last phase scheduled for completion by June 2009, given timely regulatory approvals.

KMP owns two-thirds of the equity in the project, and Sempra Pipelines & Storage owns the other one-third interest. The operator of the Rockies Express will be KMP.
